Melting facilities
|
| Refining Direct Ltd adopt two different methods of processing your materials. In brief one method is for high grade materials like Platinum foil, live scrap etc. The second is for higher volume less concentrate of precious metals like carpets and vacuum bags. |
Method one |
| All materials are weighed on entry to Refining Direct Ltd, the process is started by adding borax to your materials which helps bond all constituent metals whilst melting in an electric induction furnace. This furnace can reach temperatures of 1600 degrees fahrenheit which is crucial especially when melting Platinum or Palladium. The molten is then poured into a cast, once cooled the borax is removed and the homogenous bar is then sampled in 3 sections this then provides us with a sample for assaying. |
Method two |
| Your materials are put into a gas incinerator, this burns off most debris at 500 degrees fahrenheit. A coarse powder remains, which is then further crushed in a ball mill until a powder fineness of around 50 micron has been achieved. This powder is then mixed until a homogenous sample can be taken for assaying. |
